On April 22nd 2012, Fishguard and Goodwick are celebrating an important landmark in the history of aviation.This is the centenary of the first flight across the Irish sea when Denys Corbett Wilson flew his Bleriot XI from a field in Goodwick and landed in Enniscorthy 100 minutes later.
Many activities are planned for the week of 14th April 2012 in Fishguard and Goodwick, leading to the anniversary celebrations, including:
An exhibition commemorating Denys Corbett Wilson and the first UK-Ireland flight.
The publication of a new book about Denys Corbett Wilson.
A celebratory dinner for members of the community.
Specially commissioned music to be played by Goodwick Brass Band.
Competition for school children to design a aeroplane.
School painting competition on the theme of 'First Flight'.
Hand-launched model plane Competition.
Irish Radio Control model Bleriot plane to fly to Enniscorthy
Remote Control Plane demonstrations.
